Mobile Trials Unit
Clearfleau’s mobile trials unit, the SSPP (Small Scale Production Plant) has proved to be highly successful in demonstrating the effective performance of Clearfleau’s innovative high rate anaerobic digestion process for the on-site treatment of industrial liquid effluents.
A number of successful on-site trials have been undertaken on diverse feedstocks. The characteristics of all the trials to date are:-
- Good chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal
- Excellent biogas yield with high methane concentration
- Good solids capture whilst maintaining a healthy biomass
- Robust system capable of absorbing changes to COD load
- Quick start-up and achievement of steady state conditions
- Ease of operation and installation on site
A brief summary of the results of different waste streams are given in the table below.
|Dairy 1||Dairy 2||Food|
|Waste water COD (mg/l)||64,000||27,000||120,000||25,000|
|COD removal (%)||98||99||98||99|
|CH4 content (%)||78||68||50||50|
|CH4 yield (m3CH4/Kg COD)||0.36||0.39||0.32||0.3|
|Hydraulic retention time (days)||10||6||16||7|
The SSPP is housed within a 40’ shipping container. Apart from feedstock supply, it only requires power and water at site to be fully operational. It is supplied with a mixed balance tank and a biogas flare. The unit requires a 15m x 10m site. Typical feed rates are between 200 to 2000 litres per day, according to feed strength.
The minimum time recommended for evaluating performance is 3 months. We have the capability to undertake lab trials with novel feedstocks and can predict biogas output for a range of feedstocks based on existing experience with a wide range of liquid effluents.
Small Production Sites
Clearfleau’s is also able to supply small scale units for commercial treatment solutions. The system is suited for effluent treatment on production sites with limited volumes of feedstock that do not justify a large anaerobic digestion facility. A containerised anaerobic digestion unit can be installed on sites that only require limited treatment capacity. The mobile unit is provided with an external AD tank tailored to the capacity of the site and can be hired or purchased.
