Grey Water Recycling
There is growing concern about the water footprint of food production and efforts are being made to reduce net water use in food processing. Clearfleau’s ability to clean up liquid effluents with the removal of up to 98% of COD load through on-site digestion facilitates grey water recycling.
Most post anaerobic treatment residues contain nutrients (including nitrates and phosphates) that must be removed if water recycling is required, or there is no possibility of discharge to sewer.
To achieve grey water recycling standards or to meet local watercourse discharge and regulatory consents, post digestion nutrient removal can be included as part of Clearfleau’s plant design process and adapted to the site requirements.
Once the nutrients have been removed, the cleansed water (with very low turbidity) should be of a quality suitable for:
- Watercourse discharge (subject to consent verification)
- Re-use on site - for steam generation or plant wash down
- Recycling for other uses (with further treatment) or irrigation
The residual solids, from the nutrient removal process, can be used as a soil improver.
Grey water recycling equipment (for Industrial water re-use applications) may qualify for tax efficient Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECAs). The ECA scheme allows businesses to write off 100% of capital equipment, against taxable profits in the year of purchase. This will effectively provide tax relief worth £28 of every £100 spent on a capital project for that year.
